Digital twin of an industrial device on Vision Smart Platform, with device model, enrollment, versions and lifecycle state panels

What you can do

Device & asset models
Create accurate digital representations of devices, assets, and infrastructure with rich metadata.
Relationships & topology
Define how devices, assets, and systems connect and interact across your environment.
Enrollment & provisioning
Onboard devices securely, apply configurations, and activate services at scale.
Version & configuration control
Manage configurations and firmware versions with history, rollbacks, and approvals.
Lifecycle workflows
Automate lifecycle states and transitions from deployment to retirement.
Fleet visibility
Monitor inventory, health, and lifecycle state across your entire device fleet.

Digital twin model: how it works

Every asset on the platform is described on three levels. Attributes defined higher up flow downward, and local values can override inherited defaults.

Level 1
Model
Abstract device category
  • Common icon, image and metadata
  • Device parameters
  • Metric and command templates
Level 2
Version
Vendor / product subtype
  • Inherits model attributes
  • Vendor and product codes
  • May override inherited values
Level 3
Instance
Digital twin of a physical asset
  • Serial numbers and identity
  • Address, latitude and longitude
  • IoT system membership

Functional device classification

Every device belongs to one primary functional class. The class determines the enrollment, administration and management procedures the platform applies.

Simple devices / simple objects
Sensors, actuators and field objects.
Controllers / control devices
Aggregate, process and control devices.
Communication devices
Gateways, routers and network equipment.
Accessories
Auxiliary components attached to assets.

The device lifecycle journey

From the first model to decommissioning, every device follows the same controlled sequence of lifecycle states.

1
Model
Create digital models with capabilities and constraints.
2
Enroll
Onboard devices securely and assign identity.
3
Configure
Apply configurations and set operational parameters.
4
Activate
Deploy to production and start collecting data.
5
Maintain
Monitor health, update software and manage changes.
6
Retire
Decommission assets and archive historical data.

Business outcomes

Faster onboarding
Reduce onboarding time and accelerate time to value.

Higher data quality
Improve data accuracy with standardized models and context.

Consistent configurations
Enforce best practices and reduce configuration drift.

Reduced downtime
Proactively manage health, updates and incidents.

Better traceability
Maintain a complete history across the device lifecycle.
